A romantic escape is a wonderful way to relax and reconnect with your partner.  Not only can you spend quality time together, you can also indulge in romantic sunset dinners, soothing massages, candlelit baths and spa treatments.  The list of things to do with your companion could be endless, depending on both of your tastes.

If you are looking for new ideas of where to go, America offers some great options as it has destinations that can be reached in as little as 7 hours from London.

Vermont:  Flight time 7 hours

Given it has the shortest flight duration from London, Vermont is an ideal option for couples planning on a short break.  It has a beautiful landscape perfect for stargazing, and being a place with many bike enthusiasts, you and your partner can also enjoy an easy bike ride together.  For indoor activities, you can indulge your senses in a chocolate or ice cream factory.

New York: Flight time 7.5 hours

The Big Apple is a popular destination for couples because there is so much to do there.  Can a busy city like New York feel romantic?  You bet.  You and your partner can skate hand-in-hand around the iconic skating rink at the Rockafeller Centre, have a fun day out at the Central Park Zoo, dine at the River Café where you get spectacular views of the East River while having delicious food; and of course, no romantic getaway would be complete without a visit to the Empire State Building.

Maryland: Flight time just under 8 hours

Maryland is known for its great outdoors, and is a fantastic getaway for you and your partner if your day-to-day life takes place in busy urban cities.  A place people go to in order to get back to nature, you can enjoy activities like bike riding and scenic drives to explore the area’s beauty, culture and history. Be sure to rent a car to really get the best of the amazing drives in Maryland.

Minneapolis: Flight time 8.5 hours

A cosmopolitan city, Minneapolis is a fantastic alternative for couples who want an easy city break.  Visit the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden where you can have a picnic and stroll alongside unique sculptures in tranquil settings; you can also enjoy a fun day out at the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory.  For a romantic night of dining, choose a restaurant at the Walker Art Center, where you can admire fabulous views of downtown Minneapolis.

Chicago: Flight time 8.5 hours

Chicago has plenty of activities for couples, of which a visit to the Millennium Park is arguable the most popular. You can partake in one of the free concerts at the Pavilion in summer, or ice-skate together in the rink during winter.

For romantic views, the swanky Signature Room at the 95th is a great option though the dinner menu is expensive; a cheaper alternative is to go on the Navy Pier Ferris Wheel instead.  The Buckingham Fountain is also not to be missed, as it features a light show every 20 minutes in the evenings.
