In 1985, after graduating from the University of Missouri, Shawn and Jeanette Lawson packed up their VW bug and drove down to Kiawah Island for a beach vacation. Three years later, they established their home on the island. In 2001, they created Kiawah Island Getaways, a villa rental company that allows them to share the island they love with like-minded travelers.
