Getting To Vigan from Manila:
To get to Vigan from Manila, we went with Ferinas Bus Company (phone: 02-731-4507). There were buses every hour starting at 6:30am. The cost varied depending on which bus. Some were 500p, others were 600p and 650p. Our bus was very nice with a/c and the cost was 600p. It was a very long ride. We left at 9:00am and arrived at 8:00pm.
***Goat Note: Bring some food to eat. The restaurant we stopped at was not very good!
To get to Ferinas Bus Company from Mabini Street, take a Jeepney that says “Cuabo” on the front of it. The cost is 10p. Get off at de la Fuente Street, walk left down de la Fuente Street to Laoag Laan. Turn Left and walk to Lason & Laoag Laan. The bus station is on your left-hand side. Total walking time from the jeepney stop to the bus station is about 10 – 15 mins. Alternatively, take a taxi.
The bus will stop just outside of Vigan on the highway in a town called Bantay. There are tricycles waiting to take you to your hotel in Vigan. We were charged 50p (lied to about the cost by the bus driver, the tricycle driver and the hotel reception). We later asked tourist information in Vigan who said that the actual cost is 10p. Once we were at our hotel, we realized that it was actually only 1/2 a km and we could have walked.
Vigan to Banaue (via Baguio):
You cannot go directly to Banaue from Vigan. The fastest way is to go to Baguio first on the day bus (6:00, 6:30, 7:00, 7:30 & 9:00 – 324p) and then go to Banaue the following morning.
As of just a year ago, there are vans that go from Baguio to Banaue. They depart at 9:30am, the ticket is 415p and the travel time is about 7 hours with stops.
The van was great, it takes a different route than the bus does, passing through Sagada and Bontoc, which goes through the mountains, valleys and has spectacular views of the rice terraces along the way. We got to know the other local passengers very well and the the van made special stops for the foreigners to take pictures!
If you would prefer to take a bus rather than the van, KMS company goes from Baguio to Banaue. The cost is 415p, departing at 8:00am and 9:30am, it takes at least 8-9 hours to get there.
The KMS station where you would buy a ticket and where the bus departs from is located at: Chanum Street and Lake Road. The van departs from the road just behind the bus station, Benjamin R. Salvosa Street and Otek Street.
