During Carnival in Venice (Carnevale di Venezia), festival goers dress up in elaborate costumes and wear handmade masks. Unlike the Carnival celebrations in Latin America and the Caribbean, in Venice, this is more of a masquerade party. The traditional masks are made from leather, porcelain or glass, and are decorated with gold leaf, feathers and gems.
