Best Areas to Stay in Bude

Here’s a breakdown of the best areas and neighborhoods to stay in for tourists. Bude is a small town so everything is easily reachable on foot, and it has great public transport links to the rest of the county.

Town Center: Best For First-Time Visitors

The town center has everything you could possibly need for a great seaside holiday. With lots of independent shops, some great dining options, and of course plenty of pubs, the town center is the perfect place to stay for first-time visitors to Bude.

One of the quirkier restaurants in Bude is The Barge, which is located on a converted canal boat. Be sure to check out the fantastic Brendon Arms for the best in Cornish beer, cider, and wines, plus a hearty and inexpensive pub menu.

For lunch, I recommend the (Cornish) Davidstow cheddar and red onion marmalade sandwich, one of my favorite lunchtime snacks.

Crooklets beach is located one mile north of central Bude and boats a large golden, sandy beach backed by imposing cliffs. This is a great area for surfing, exploring rock pools, and hiking the beautiful coastal path that stretches along the north Cornish coastline.

There are plenty of pubs, cafes, and restaurants around Crooklets such as Rosie’s Kitchen and Bistro, The Crooklets Inn, and the Crooklets Beach Cafe. I love this area as the beach is better suited to surfing than the more crowded Summerleaze.

The expansive Widemouth Bay is a great place for families to stay with some great holiday homes for rent in Bude just a stone’s throw from the beach. Widemouth has plenty of activities to keep everyone occupied such as surfing, exploring rock pools, or simply relaxing in one of the beachside cafes.

The southwest coast path passes along the bay and is a great place for nature hikes, picnics, and wildlife spotting. There are lots of great dining options at Widemouth like the Widemouth Bay Cafe and Bay View Inn. I’ve been visiting Widemouth for years and it remains one of my favorite beaches in Cornwall.
